BOok Review- A Society of Wishes

This is my Goodreads review:

I read this as an ARC. First of all I love the cover of the book. I’m a sucker for a pretty cover. So my thoughts on the book itself…well to be honest I liked the idea of the story but when I read the book I really struggled with certain elements.
Firstly I found I couldn’t connect with the main character. I found her somewhat annoying and selfish rather than feisty.
As many reviewers have said the society is secret, I get that but why did no one answer Jo’s questions or explain how it worked? I almost gave up reading out of frustration. It also seemed a VERY depressing concept at times. Where is the joy in eating if you don’t need to and are never hungry or thirsty? What’s the point in memories if everyone who shared them doesn’t exist any longer?
I wanted to get to know the other characters more too. Perhaps this will happen in the other books? I felt a bit disconnected to them too I’m afraid.
I don’t think this Book needed to be classed as NA. It has a random sex scene but the rest feels more YA. That said I kind of liked that Jo took control of her needs and instigated what she physically wanted. That isn’t addressed in many books.
The writing and this Book wasn’t bad but it didn’t blow me away so 3 stars from me.
